In a way, it was a blessing the portal had handwavily because I am a slacker come for Angela just moments after sucking Marty up.

It meant that, while she had to spend two nights in post-Civil War Massachusetts being laced into a corset, sipping tea, and dodging a chatty girl who insisted Angela was the mirror of her dear dead sister Beth, she had no idea Marty and Abby were missing.

When the return portal dropped her at home, she dialed Marty's number, left him a message so he'd know she was okay, and then went to take a long hot bath. She had missed modern plumbing.

You want to talk about portals? Well apparently they have a sense of humor because it popped open right in the Chase-Blank bathroom where some blaring music came through along with Marty and Abby.

"Oh. My. God. You are a sight for sore eyes. I never want to hear Public Enemy ever again," Marty exclaimed as he almost dived into the tub to hug Angela, as Abby giggled. "Did anything happen to you?"

"We were in Chicago in a record store where everyone thought I was Rob Gordon," Marty said leaning gratefully against the wall in the bathroom. "And apparently Marcella and Principal Dewey had doppelgangers there. Wow, am I glad to be here."

"She seemed especially amused when Aunt Marcella smacked me in the face," Marty said with a small grin as he watched her with Abby. "But she's definitely not a fan of loud music. I hope this bodes well for the future. And you were in 1867? Really?"

"Well did they save you?" Marty teased. "As for the slapping? Well apparently Rob Gordon cheated on his girlfriend and then let fake Marcella believe the break up was not his fault."

"I bet that worked well," Marty said as he followed them into the bedroom. "So did they instill the fear of God into you or did you show them who's boss?"

"Good point," Marty said flopping down on the bed with a large sigh of contentment. "Never a good idea to bite the hand that feeds you. Which reminds me I have a tape of a band I never heard of that's actually pretty good if you want to hear it."

Dick was pretty quick with that tape dub.

"Reminded me of when either you or I worked at the record in Fandom," Marty said. "Except the people who worked there were nuts. And the band is... licorice somthing. Comfort?"

"It's was all vinyl there but I managed to score some Buck Howdy and Laurie Berkner CD's," Marty replied. "Though Abby didn't mind the Licorice comfortadors or whatever they are. Very mellow."

"No argument from me," Marty said leaning over to scoop the child up. "I'm just glad you weren't here all alone freaking out where we might have ended up or something."

"I know. Thank God we were just sucked into other dimensions so we'd be distracted," Marty joked.
