UNY Dorm Room, Saturday Afternoon

It was Angela's 19th birthday, but she didn't have any plans to celebrate, really. She'd let herself have a caramel latte at work --- ooh, rebellion -- and was now flopped on her bed, trying to do some reading for her women's lit final.

Of course, Virginia Woolf wouldn't do her much good if she didn't make it past freshman year, but Angela wasn't letting herself think that far ahead.

Her phone was ringing, a ring that was somehow just a little more obnoxious than it normally was.

On the other end, Rayanne was chanting. "PLEASE don't already be gone, Chase. PLEASE be lame."

Angela picked up the phone, glancing at it just long enough to see it was an unfamiliar Pittsburgh number. "Hello?"

"She picked up!" Rayanne announced to Rickie. "You take the harminoes, okay?"

Dimly, Angela might hear Rickie asking why he always got the harmonies before the pair started singing.

"Happy birthday to yoooooou, happy birthday to yoooooou, happy birthday dear AngeLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, happy birthday to you!"

The harmonies were very nice.

Angela's response was a happy squeal. "Oh my god, you guys remembered! And you so did not have to."

"Hi!" Rickie returned. "How's the Big Apple? We're going to go shopping there this summer, right?"

Having other friends around tickled Parker's memory enough for her to check and yup, today is Angela's birthday. Time to wish her a happy one, especially since there's more than one person to sing to her.

After hanging up with her friends from home, Angela had just closed her eyes for a nap (her favorite hobby lately) when the phone rang again.

It was Parker's number.

"Hey!" she greeted.

Isabel and Anders joined in, and finished up with:

"~Happy birthday dear Angelaaaaaa... happy birthday to youuuuU!~"

"Hey!" Parker returned. "Happy nineteenth! Wish you were here!"

"Parker!" Angela laughed, actually sounding happy. "And ... whoever is with Parker?"

"And thanks. I would say I wished I was there too, but then you guys might be in a Thai prison. With good cell phone access."

"No prison. Yet!" Isabel laughed. "Give us a few more hours. It's Isabel. Happy Birthday from merry olde England!" The last bit was said with a very bad fake English accent.

There was a knock on the door and a familiar person on the other side of it.

He got a hug as soon as Angela yanked herself off the bed and opened the door. "Hiiiiii."

"Happy Birthday," Mary said returning the hug but only one handed as he was carrying a giant bag in one hand. "Is it a good one so far?"

"Uh-huh!" Angela said. "I was expecting, like, nothing? But a ton of people called and my parents sent junk food and I think Noel's going to make a cake later."

She was eying the bag.

"He is?" Marty asked as he held up the bag. "Well then I guess you probably don't want this chocolate mousse cake from Juniors?"

Zero sure hoped it was.

Angela applauded by tapping her fingers against the phone's mouthpiece. Birthdays rocked. "Thanks, Zero! You even made that song sound cool."

Ringing telephones on birthdays were very good things! "Hi!" Angela chirped into it, in a much better mood than she'd been a few hours before.

"Hey, almost-bride!" Angela returned. "So far a lot like the end of 18 did. But there's cake and my parents sent junk food and People have been calling me, so it's kind of an awesome day. Which rocks, I was expecting, like, nothing."
