The garbage bag didn't quite reek -- her mother was far too careful a housekeeper for unfortunate odors, even during a crisis -- but it did bulge, and whack against Angela's leg as she carried it down the driveway.

But it barely registered. Her mind was swirling with competing worries. Her grandfather, who had looked so small and fragile in his hospital bed – so unlike himself – had finally been released, to a rehab unit, but he was still mostly paralyzed on one side and could barely talk. Her mother said she could go home whenever she wanted, and Angela supposed she shouldn't miss any more school so close to the end of the year.

But then there was Marty's handwaved message. The one in which he said he loved her and not to worry if anything happened to him.

Which was nice, but ... she wondered what he thought might happen.

And when she dialed his number, it went straight to voice mail, every time.

She would be finding a way back to Fandom as soon as possible if she had to steal a car to do it.

Someone's watching her... )

After Marty left, Angela took a few hours to recover, she curled on her bed, hugging herself as if she might fly away.

When she stood again, she looked hesitantly at the phone. Then she dialed a familiar number -- Veronica's number. The line was staticky, but she could hear the phone ring.

"Hello?"

"Veronica? It's Angela." The voice was tear-stained. "Marty just came to say goodbye."

Angela quickly hopped out of a rickshaw cab, lugged her suitcase up a back staircase to room 304, and curled up on her bed.

She stared at a picture of herself and Marty for a while, then sighed and turned out the light. Sleep sounded like a very good idea; she could figure out the rest of ... everything ... tomorrow.

Slowly, she drifted off.

[OOC: Not open for interaction, just establishing that she's baaaaack]
