Yesterday was a really nice day, actually. Which was good. I've been feeling just a little off-center since Thanksgiving; being someplace normal was strange, even though my family stuff was less excruciating than I imagined. (But, still, Hallie Lowenthal. Ugh. And I can tell she's really trying to be nice to me, and I just want her to go. away., and I think she can tell. Then Dad gets this incredibly hurt look about the whole thing.) I seriously could not have made it through as well as I did without M.

It's strange that this bizarre island feels so much more like home to me now than Three Rivers does.

I started yesterday by getting engaged to a toaster. I need to tell Marty -- hopefully he won't be too jealous. (But, then, he's been talking to Veronica a lot lately, and -- I'm not jealous, really. I keep telling myself to quit worrying about that -- she's way too nice a person, and I trust him. It's just hard to do that when you've been burned, y'know?

Later on, I hung out with Shane and Jake at the Perk. Jake was seriously weirded out that Shane's dating a teacher, which I get, but I am becoming more and more aware that teachers -- and, like, everyone else over age 18 -- is actually a person. Which I guess means I'll still be a person when I'm older, too. (I'm still glad Geoff and I didn't hook up, though. It would have been way too messy.)

It was my training day at the library. The librarian is apparently part of a threesome that makes him grumpy a lot, Special Collections has a monkey and is a "soft place" where worlds blend, and I think I'm really going to like my job there. Even if the bookshelves do move on their own.

Then I stopped by the newspaper meeting for a few minutes. Jake looked really tired and kind of pale. I hope he was okay. I got a message, and I'm supposed to profile Rover. If I can find the big round guy...

Went to Caritas with Parker, Zero, Rory and several other people. Didn't sing, did meet Jarod, who apparently knew Parker when she was tiny. He's very cool. Ror did her best to teach me to tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue, but I think I just have, like, a clumsy tongue or something, 'cause I couldn't get it to work.

M. and I are going to Deb's tonight. Yay for datiness.
