UNY Dorm Room, Saturday Afternoon

It was Angela's 19th birthday, but she didn't have any plans to celebrate, really. She'd let herself have a caramel latte at work --- ooh, rebellion -- and was now flopped on her bed, trying to do some reading for her women's lit final.

Of course, Virginia Woolf wouldn't do her much good if she didn't make it past freshman year, but Angela wasn't letting herself think that far ahead.

Ringing telephones on birthdays were very good things! "Hi!" Angela chirped into it, in a much better mood than she'd been a few hours before.

"Hi there, birthday girl!" Rory greeted cheerfully. "How's nineteen feel?"

"Hey, almost-bride!" Angela returned. "So far a lot like the end of 18 did. But there's cake and my parents sent junk food and People have been calling me, so it's kind of an awesome day. Which rocks, I was expecting, like, nothing."

"Yeah, nineteen's boring as far as birthdays go. But still! Birthday! You can't go wrong with a birthday. Get any good loot so far?"

"Nah, but Marty hasn't been by yet," Angela shrugged, not sounding terribly worried. "And Zero says she'll thwap him if he doesn't come up with something good, so it's like I get a present either way.

"Ooh, entertaining," Rory commented. "Tell her not to do it at the wedding. It's a violence-free event, or so I keep telling myself."

"She's coming?" Angela sounded happy about this. "I knew you guys were going small, so I didn't want to, like, assume."

"And no violence, no way. Especially since Aeryn will be all dressed up, too."

"I invited her," Rory shrugged. "And Peter. And supposedly there'll be ceremonial lightsabers, which might be interesting to explain to the town."

"You could convince them it's a themed wedding," Angela suggested. "You know, lightsabers instead of Civil War swords."

"Is Anakin wearing robes, or a tux?"

"A tux. He better wear a tux," she said thoughtfully. "Lukey might be wearing robes though."

"Can I tell you I think your husband will be hot in a tux, or is that weird?" Angela mused. "And Luke should wear whatever feels right to him."

"It's not weird," Rory decided. "I kind of can't believe it's a month off. I still haven't seen my dress."

"I know, it's way soon," Angela said, glancing at the spot where her dress hung in her closet. "Um. Speaking of dresses? Mine ... I might need to have them let it out."

"That's fine," Rory said obliviously. "Mom can probably do it, actually. How much?"

"Mot that much yet, thank god," Angela said. Her jeans were just slightly snug, really, and she hoped things would stay that way so she did not look like a whale at the wedding. "Um. This is weird? And I'm not telling a lot of people yet because it's weird and really not what I expected? But ... I'm having a baby. Not until like Halloween."

There was dead silence on Rory's end of the phone as she kind of just sat and let that sink in.

Then, a very happy, "Seriously?"

The fact Rory sounded happy made the twisting in Angela's stomach stop. "Seriously," she said. "We found out about a week and a half ago. I'm still kind of getting used to it."

"Oh my god." Rory was grinning. "I mean, that's...terrifying and stuff. You're due in October?"

"Terrifying and strange and did I mention not at all what I planned, really?" Angela said. "But ... it's starting to be okay."

"Technically it's November fifth, or something, but I've been saying Halloween 'cause it's easier to remember."

She paused, putting aside the glee for a moment. "You know, if you need someone to talk to, my mom's kind of an expert."

"Oh thank God," Angela said, sounding distinctly relieved. "I so wanted to talk to her but I didn't want to call you and be all, hi, what's your mom's new number? Because. Um. It's still all new and weird."

"And not to be ... you know, more weird? But knowing your mom did it even younger was really good for me to remember."

"And she didn't really have my dad," she added softly. "You've got Marty, right?"

"He's being amazing," Angela nodded. "So far, at least. He asked me to marry him, but ... I don't want to do another big huge new thing just because of this."

"Yeah," she said quietly. "I'm totally reversed there, but I get it. I mean, do what feels right."
