UNY Dorm Room, Saturday Afternoon

It was Angela's 19th birthday, but she didn't have any plans to celebrate, really. She'd let herself have a caramel latte at work --- ooh, rebellion -- and was now flopped on her bed, trying to do some reading for her women's lit final.

Of course, Virginia Woolf wouldn't do her much good if she didn't make it past freshman year, but Angela wasn't letting herself think that far ahead.

"Glad to see you're already milking the pregnant angle," Marty teased as he started pulling out take-out containers from Whole Foods. "I also picked up a little dinner if that works for you oh-mother-of-my-child."

Angela stuck her tongue out at him ans she began opening containers to sniff them. She set aside one that smelled off, then went to find forks. "I'm only going to get to do this, like, twice in my life," she said, with great dignity. "May as well try to enjoy it."

"Twice, huh?" Marty said trying to sniff the one she had set aside to see what was wrong with it. "Do you think we're going to have a boy first or that maybe that one weekend Fandom was just messing with us?"

There was nothing wrong with it Marty would find. "It smells like green peppers," Angela informed him, making a face.

"Twice at most." She touched her stomach, lightly. "I don't know. Fandom does like to mess with people, you know? I guess we'll find out when the doctor tells us." She narrowed her eyes. "Do you want a boy first?"

"I thought you liked green peppers," Marty said sniffing it again. "And as far as I'm concerned I just want the kid to be healthy. And happy. And mostly looking like you."

"I used to! Now they just smell ..." Angela waved a hand through the air, not wanting to say pukey.

She smiled. "It would be a lucky kid to look like you, too, y'know."

"How about we just settle for healthy and not smelling like green peppers?" Marty suggested. "And maybe hope for a mixture of our good looks."

"Your hair and my eyes?" Angela suggested, running a hand up his stomach. "And healthy."

"I was going to suggest your hair and my eyes," Marty joked as he slipped his arms around her waist. "We can get baby hair dye, right?"

"We're already gonna taumatize it enough just being born to us," Angela pointed out. "Good-looking baby, even if it did come out with my real hair."

She leaned back to look into his eyes.

"Isn't that the objective of all parenting?" Marty asked, "Because I know there's baby pictures of me in a bunny suit that my mother was blackmailing me with back when I went to Grosse Pointe."

Angela laughed. "If your mom wasn't sick I'd be on the phone with her now to get those," she informed him. "I should call Marcella and see if she kept copies."

"Those pictures are now inaccessible," Marty said with a mock-glare. "And if you call Marcella I'm having her make you dinner."

Angela stamped a foot. "Damn, you play hardball."

"I'm practicing," Marty grinned. "That was my no nonsense paternal attitude. How'd I do?"

"Our kid will be scared of you," Angela decided. "In the good way, not the scary way."

She put her arms around his neck and swayed a little.

"Well I don't want to scare him. Her? Tiny thing?" Marty said swaying along with Angela. "Or would that just make me a pushover?"

"Tiny thing," Angela decided. "T.T."

She booped the tip of his nose lightly. "You'll be such a pushover either way."

"What? Me?" Marty said leaning in for a kiss. "You think I'm just going to rollover the first time the kids says 'goo'?"

Angela paused for a beat after the kiss, face bearing an expression that distinctly wondered if Marty was serious.

"Uh-huh?"

"Okay," he said with a grin. "Just checking."

And leaned in for another kiss.

Marty kisses were always nice; Angela let her lips play softly over his, one hand resting on his heart.

There was nothing to worry about, here.

"Having a good birthday so far?" Marty asked in a quiet and happy voice.

"Not as good as the one when you came home," Angela said quietly. "But it's up there."

"Would a gift put it over the top?" Marty asked with a sly grin.
